89-year-old Grandma always dreamed of becoming a bridesmaid. And here’s how her dream came true

Being a bridesmaid is frequently regarded as a mark of honor among friends. It simply means that this particular group of people is closer to the bride and has a special place in their hearts. Some people believe that bridesmaids should be around the same age as the bride. Betty Govern, on the other hand, is not convinced.

This 89-year-old grandmother served as a bridesmaid at her granddaughter’s wedding. Christine Quinn married Patrick Quinn on May 2, 2015, in Plymouth, Pennsylvania. Nana stood by her side for the ceremony, looking stunning in a dusty purple gown. “You’re just as old as you feel,” Betty said, “and I feel youthful today.” The bride-to-be told The Huffington Post that including her grandma as a bridesmaid was not a tough decision. She was, in fact, one of her closest friends.

“Although she doesn’t live nearby, we have made it a point to spend as much time together as possible. She simply has an amazing sense of humor and outlook on life that I strive to emulate every day. Christine claimed that she proposed just a few months before her wedding so that her grandmother wouldn’t have time to say no. The bride, it turns out, never anticipated her Nana’s saying yes because her grandmother is rather humble.

“Are you sure?” she questioned around ten times. and “Why would you want an elderly lady to attend your birthday party?” She even commented a couple of times, “All of your bridesmaids are young and lovely; why would you want me?” Nana is obviously stunning as well. Look at those pictures!”

Her Nana agreed to be her bridesmaid and quickly became the life of the party. “She had the entire wedding party smiling throughout the day with her bits of wisdom and witty quips,” Christine said. Nana joined the rest of the wedding party on the party bus instead of “going home to rest,” but she didn’t inform my mother. She also danced the entire night away, including an exquisite dance with my husband’s grandma, Bellsie. “It was incredible.”

The story of the 89-year-old bridesmaid teaches us that age is just a number. While we may believe that we are elderly and should not place undue strain on our health, there will always be joyful people who will face and overcome the challenges of old age.
