Fans have been excitedly anticipating The White Lotus Season 3 since the game-changing second season conclusion in December—and there’s cause to be! The next part has been announced, and creator Mike White has hinted that he wants to move the resort drama to Asia. “The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex, and I think the third season would be, maybe, a kind of satirical and funny look at death, Eastern religion, and spirituality,” he said in an HBO featurette, after telling Deadline he was particularly interested in Japan.
Of course, writing, casting, and filming that foreign adventure will take time. But first, White has another project in the works: an e.l.f. ad that will air during the Super Bowl on February 12.
White co-wrote the narrative for the ad, which is the cosmetic brand’s debut television spot. While fans worry if Jennifer Coolidge will return to The White Lotus Season 3 (admittedly, Tanya’s demise makes that tough), they may take solace in the knowledge that the recent Golden Globe winner is still alive and well in the e.l.f. advertisement. Coolidge plays herself in this video and has a good time testing out the brand’s Power Grip Primer for the first time.
Coolidge compares her skin to that of a young dolphin after using the primer and even mimics the sound of one. “It looks like I came from the sea,” she continues, which has nothing to do with The White Lotus but seems uncomfortably close to home when you recall Tanya’s, eh, dip in the water in the season finale.
It’s hardly shocking to see White and Coolidge pair together again, even outside of the White Lotus universe. They’ve also been buddies for a long time. “You never know how she’ll approach a situation or how crazy she’ll go,” White told Bustle in 2021. “That type of individual might give me worry when I’m writing. “But she’s virtually unrivaled in terms of bringing a fresh perspective on a phrase or a scene and making it her own.” That skill extends to dolphin impressions, which comes as no surprise.
So, when the best friends’ latest project together aired in full on February 12, Twitter went crazy.
