Cary Grant lost the love of multiple women due to a self-destructive trait born of abandonment issues from his childhood, or so he thought. He finally found love in his fifth wife and daughter

Grant was born Archibald Leach, the son of a tailor’s presser in England. His mother abandoned him when he was just nine years old, and he carried this anguish with him for years until he was thirty and discovered the truth.

His father had committed his mother to an institution. But by the time he discovered the truth, his faith in women had plummeted to an all-time low, which would have a significant influence on his future relationships.

He had a propensity for falling in love quickly and compulsively. Yet, his self-absorption, need to dominate his love interests, and possessive conduct caused his best relationship to quickly fall apart.

Grant met and married actress Virginia Cherill in 1934, then Woolworths heiress Barbara Hutton in 1943, and the weddings all followed the same pattern. They were bound to fail from the start.

His third marriage to Betsy Drake would follow the same path. But by the time he married his fourth wife, actress Dyan Cannon, he had begun to work on himself, even seeking LSD therapy for his destructive habits. His fifth wife, Barbara, told Closer:

“He felt it was really useful.” “It brought out many aspects of his past that he had buried, knowingly or unknowingly.”

Cannon and Grant’s marriage was barely three years long, but it was without a doubt the most turbulent. She was just 28 years old. He was 61. Despite the warning signs that were raised even before they married, she ignored them and married him.

He’d take her shopping and insist on her wearing this and that outfit, complimenting her on how lovely she looked, but when she glanced in the mirror, she questioned who the woman in the image was.

She claims that as soon as they married, he began criticizing her appearance, and despite her dislike of LSD, Grant urged that she continue taking it if she wanted their marriage to succeed.

It only got worse when she became pregnant. He withdrew physically, most likely because he was still scarred by his past experience, and grew chilly towards Cannon. Jennifer, their daughter, was born soon after.

Grant met his fifth wife, Barbara, in London, and despite their 47-year age difference, they clicked right away.

Grant remained mute when she asked if he would love her without the pills, and Cannon’s heart sank. They broke up soon after, and Cannon was destroyed. She became depressed and was taken to a psychiatric facility.

Grant was “cruel” to his wife, pushing his fears on her, but when his daughter was born, he was immediately smitten. He gave up his acting career to be a father to his daughter.

And his devotion to her was straight out of a movie. He loves his daughter and meticulously recorded her childhood with home videos and pictures.

He was always there for her when she needed him, and she frequently spent three-month stretches at her father’s house while her mother was away filming.

Jennifer remembers a loving father who was strict and made sure everyone had good manners and spoke perfect English.Grant brags about his daughter, according to Barbara:

Jennifer is my most successful product. She’s the most charming, endearing female I’ve ever met, and I’ve met a lot. We have an open and honest connection. “We’re on the same page.”

Jennifer seemed to have reciprocated Grant’s feelings for her. Jennifer opted to name the first of her two children after her father when she became pregnant with the first of her two children. On August 12, 2008, Cary Benjamin Grant was born.

Jennifer and her late father both had an interest in performing. She understood from an early age that she wanted to perform in front of a camera and has starred in a number of popular projects, including the film “Savage,” the television show “90210,” and the 2022 film “Babylon.”

Grant met his fifth wife, Barbara, in London, and despite their 47-year age difference, they clicked right away. She remembers him as humorous and engaging, with a sparkle in his eye.

Their marriage was very loving, and when his old habits reared their ugly heads again, all Barbara had to do was show him that she was with him for the right reasons.

Jennifer was Grant’s greatest love, she claims, and her birth may have saved him from himself. She also mentions that his latter years were the happiest and most serene of his life.

The “North By Northwest” star died of a severe stroke in 1986. He divided his money, thought to be between $40 and $60 million, between Barbara and Jennifer, the two ladies who genuinely made a difference in his life.
