“I just want to get this over with,” Chris moaned as he approached his parents’ house.
“Honey, they’re your parents.” “We want them to accept me and attend our wedding, right?” Amanda, his wife, stroked his arms.
Chris muttered. “I’m not interested in that, Amanda.” “I’m sorry, but if they can’t accept the lady I love, I’m not interested in working with them.”
“Please, sweetheart. We must reach an agreement with them. What about tomorrow? They’re related. “Don’t we want them to be a part of our children’s lives?” Amanda continued to have a little smile on her face. The trouble is that the young, gorgeous woman didn’t see her husband’s mouth constricting.
Chris struggled to maintain his cool in the aftermath of her comments. “Yeah, I suppose.” Through his rigid lips, he mumbled.
“That’s all right.” When are you going to resign from your job? He went on.
“OK! Now, be cheerful. “We’re all in this together,” Amanda smiled and hugged him.
Mrs. Castillo, Chris’s mother, opened the door with her trademark phony grin, merely slightly raising her lips.
“Hello there, Amanda. “It’s great to see you,” she replied, softly tipping her head and shifting so they could pass through the entrance.
Chris was tempted to scoff. He and Amanda hadn’t seen each other in years. Even though they were engaged, his parents still saw her as the lady who “ruined their plans.” They wanted their son to be with someone else and were irritated by his decision.
Chris’ parents introduced him to Ciara, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geoffrey, when he graduated from college and started his first job. Her father was on the board of a small private clinic and was well-known in their community.
Chris was from the Castillo family, which had always been prosperous due to their great investments. grandfather’s Chris was uninterested in it. His parents were preoccupied with their social standing and what others thought of them.
However, he made the most incredible college buddies from all areas of life. It altered his life forever, and he recognized that the females he had met at elite school and country club events were not for him. He wants a genuine lady.
Amanda then emerged. He’d been at his job for a few years when he ran into her on his way out of a parking lot. For him, it was love at first sight, so he attempted to laugh, grin, and invite her outright immediately.
She worked in a nearby building and was annoyed by his approaches. But she ultimately agreed to a date, and they’ve been together ever since.
Her first meeting with his parents was a fiasco. They advised Chris to cut things off as soon as she walked away from the restaurant table to use the restroom.
“She works as an assistant.” Why are you unable to date Ciara? She is completely smitten by you. This isn’t the right girl for you. His mother spoke calmly, but her expression was filled with despair and hatred.
“Pay attention to your mother, son.” You must marry a woman of your own social status. Otherwise, it will not work. Shaking his head, his father joined in.
“You two need to stop talking.” I’m not going to listen to this. “Ciara is a vacuous little princess, and I refuse to be around her ever!” He stated it fiercely but quietly enough.
Amanda returned to the table, and the meal resumed. His parents were never good at keeping a straight face, so this encounter was unpleasant. However, Amanda realized that things had become worse following those remarks.
He subsequently explained everything, and she understood, advising him to give his parents some space. But it had been a while, and they hadn’t warmed up yet. They were polite in front of her but muttered behind her back. They mostly tolerated her, especially after they became engaged. Meanwhile, she remained optimistic. Amanda was the type of person who saw the glass as half-full. As a result, she continued to call his mother to schedule dinners and involved her in some wedding plans.
The only thing Amanda had kept hidden was the fact that they were already trying for a child. She intended for it to be a surprise. Mr. and Mrs. Castillo could eventually warm up when they started having children.
As they sat at his parents’ dining table, Chris could only think of ways to end this gathering. He needed to tell his fiancée something, and it was crucial. It might forever alter the nature of their connection. She may even decide to abandon him.
“They have no idea what they are missing.” “Allow them to enjoy cake in their country clubs while you and I pursue true pleasure.”
He’d told his parents about it a few days earlier when he got the news. They had little to say about it. Their expressions were sorrowful and concerned, yet they maintained their stoic demeanor.
“Let Amanda leave you,” his mother advised, but that would kill Chris. As a result, he had been frightened to tell her the truth.
“So, Amanda,” his father said, jolting Chris out of his reverie. “How’s it going at work?”
“Mr. Castillo, I’m sorry. The work is going swimmingly. My employer is planning a large event, and I’m assisting with the preparations. “It’s actually been a lot of fun,” she said, pleased that they were interested in her.
“That’s all right.” When are you going to resign from your job? He went on.
“Please excuse me.”
“Quit. In order to become a housewife, “Mr. Castillo elaborated.
“I’m not quitting,” Amanda said, confused.
“She’ll keep working, Dad,” Chris said, irritably.
“That’s… fine. Amanda is, after all, a contemporary lady, sweetheart. His mother responded, not quite smiling but not yet furious.
“I don’t know what my plans are yet. “It will be determined by the future,” Amanda remarked, anxiously swallowing. “In that vein, I have an announcement. I’m expecting!”
The table was deafeningly quiet for what seemed like hours, yet it was only a few seconds. Amanda was certain that a baby would be all that this family needed to fully embrace her, but she had no idea what Chris had just uncovered.
Mrs. Castillo was the first to break the stillness. “He’s infertile!” she screamed angrily. Her face was flushed with rage.
Chris was really stunned. They had been intimate without protection for a long time, hoping for this. But he had recently received medical results confirming that he couldn’t father any children. This indicated Amanda had cheated.
“YOU AWFUL TROLLOP!” His mother yelled again. “No, my son, you cheated and got pregnant?” “YOU WANT TO BABY-TRAP HIM NOW?”
“Is he a baby trap?” Mrs. Castillo, Chris, and I have been trying for several months. We wanted to surprise you and begin our family as soon as possible. What exactly do you mean by “infertile”? That is not feasible! Amanda shook her head quickly, unsure of what to do.
Mr. Castillo rose up and wiped his lips with a linen napkin. “Get out of here as soon as possible.” Never show your face in front of my kid again, or we’ll file a restraining order. “He made a whispered threat.”
“Sir! Please, Chris. Take action. “I’m not sure what you’re talking about!” Amanda urged her boyfriend, but Chris was immobile. Mrs. Castillo suddenly grabbed Amanda’s hair and began pushing her toward the front door.
“Get out of here immediately!” shouted the elder woman, mockingly.
Amanda clutched her hair to avoid further pain, yet she kept calling out to Chris. It was pointless. He remained seated at the table, staring at his plate and not moving.
“CHRIS!” Amanda finally yelled when the hefty front door crashed shut.
The days that followed were hazy. Chris left the medical findings on their kitchen countertop as he walked out of their shared residence. He also left a sticky note.
“I was concerned and had my blood checked. I’m sterile. Completely. I wish you a good life, but it will not be with me. “Amanda’s heart was broken,” he wrote.
That doctor had to be mistaken. She was pregnant, and the child was all Chris’s. She hadn’t been with anyone else in a long time. How did this happen? And why isn’t he talking to me?
Chris refused to communicate despite her best attempts. When she went to his parents’ house, they called the cops, who warned her she had to leave or face arrest.
“Fine! I’m going! I’ll raise this lovely child on my own! “You’re the one who’s missing out, and by the time you realize it, it’ll be too late!” She yelled and walked away from the mansion.
Amanda didn’t need to trap anybody, despite what the Castillo family said. She didn’t come from a wealthy household, but she worked hard. Her firm had an excellent maternity leave policy, and the entire crew was eager to assist her. Her employer adored her, so she was unconcerned.
“What? No, it was simply our strategy. Mrs. Geoffrey laughed and waved her hand.
The issue was confronting a very different future without Chris and as a single mother. But if others could do it, she certainly could.
As a result, she had the kid, named him Paul, and tried her hardest. It was exhausting at times to do everything alone, but she persisted every day for her kid. The only problem was that her child was an exact replica of Chris. It was impossible to overlook.
“Those fools,” she muttered as she laid him down for a nap. “They have no idea what they are missing.” “Allow them to enjoy cake in their country clubs while you and I pursue true pleasure.”
Chris attempted to move on with his life. After he moved out of his shared flat with Amanda, his normally chilly parents were quite supportive. He was grateful for it. Amanda cheating on him was the last thing on his mind. Despite clear proof, it didn’t seem plausible.
But his parents assured him that everything would be OK shortly. And even when you don’t want it to, life continues. He went back to work, got a new apartment, and tried to forget about the suffering. Without Amanda, his future looked grim, but his parents attempted to cheer him up.
They invited him to supper one day, and Ciara was there. Surprisingly, they got along well, and she had a lot to say. His parents were overjoyed and welcomed their son’s friendship. Chris lacked the determination to reject once more.
He began dating Ciara. They were moving slowly, but he didn’t dissuade his mother when she mentioned a country club wedding. Fine. “If this is the life I deserve, I’ll just let them organize everything for me,” he reasoned in his dark times.
Amanda was no longer in his life. He only hoped her baby’s father was a decent man.
Amanda was going down the street, cell phone in hand, around a year after Paul was born, when she came across someone.
“I’m very sorry. I wasn’t paying attention. She apologized, only to look up and find Chris. “Oh.”
“Amanda,” he whispered as he swallowed. “Hi.”
“Hello,” she said hesitantly. “Bye.”
“Wait,” Chris said, but the action caused her to drop her phone. “I’m terribly sorry.”
When he picked it up, the screen lit up. As a screensaver, there was a photo of her infant, and his gaze was drawn to it.
“Give it to me!” Amanda yanked it from his grasp, finally displaying her rage. “You don’t have the right to stare at him.”
“Him?” he murmured, gasping for air after witnessing the sight.
“Yes. “My son,” she murmured as she lifted her chin. “Only mine.”
Her entire manner was unexpected. He could see why she might lie about adultery at first, but it had been a long time since their breakup. She didn’t have to act any longer.
“I imagine it didn’t work out with the father,” Chris said, wanting to lash out and harm her in some way.
“Yeah. It didn’t work. “She cocked her brow.” “Goodbye, Chris.”
She then walked away.
Chris thought about the subject for several days. He didn’t recall much about the newborn photo since she had seized her phone too swiftly. He did, however, have lovely blue eyes. Amanda had brown eyes. Of course, the father may be anyone.
but not her demeanor. It was strange how she accused him without actually saying anything. Was it conceivable that he was mistaken? that his physicians were mistaken?
He hadn’t gone to Ciara’s father’s private clinic, so it didn’t seem plausible. They possessed all of the latest technology, so the possibility of a misleading result was unusual. But what if…?
Ciara brought him to her mother’s house for a meeting with the wedding coordinator, so he couldn’t think about it much. They were engaged, and things were going quickly. He was unconcerned. He only wanted his folks to stop talking about it.
The whole thing was ridiculous. He had no idea why he was there when Ciara and her mother went through everything. Mrs. Geoffrey concentrated on him when his new fiancée took a break. She talked about the wedding, the future, how she knew this day would arrive, and so on.
But then she replied, “Oh, and the children you two will have.” Precious!”
“Life is too short to hold grudges.”
“Babies? Mrs. Geoffrey, I’m pregnant. You should be aware of this. “Everyone knows I was tested at your husband’s clinic,” Chris said with a grimace.
“What? No, it was simply our strategy. Mrs. Geoffrey laughed and waved her hand.
“Plan?” Chris inquired, his voice freezing.
Mrs. Geoffrey appeared to just comprehend what she had said at that point. Her face blanched, and she reached for her lips. “I mean, eh, no.” Those objects include flaws… “I believe IVF can be successful.” She stumbled over her words.
And Chris was aware of everything right away.
Ciara took a step back. “OK, let’s go,” she responded without looking around the room.
“Darling, I’m delighted you misled me because now I get to marry you,” he surprisingly replied. Ciara’s gaze shifted to him swiftly.
“You know about that?” she inquired, beginning to grin.
“Ciara, no!” her mother said.
Chris stood up from the couch. “Goodbye. “I pray you both burn in hell.”
Chris learned the full tale while driving to Amanda’s apartment from his mother, who was on the phone. Fortunately, she had never moved out of their shared apartment, and he still had a duplicate key.
“Chris, you don’t get it!” He didn’t care that she cried. He demanded to know the truth.
His outcomes were, in fact, a plan. A ruse. It’s a plan. It was a betrayal. Everything was set up for him to discard Amanda and go on to Ciara. His mother had noticed Amanda’s strong desire to have children. They expected to be separated from the news.
But once Amanda announced her pregnancy, their strategy became even more successful. Mrs. Castillo summoned all of her acting skills and put on that performance. Everyone was aware. His parents, Ciara’s parents, and the technician they had bought off and then fired were all responsible for the incorrect results. His doctor had also been duped because he had only seen bogus tests and photos.
“You will never see me again,” he informed his mother before hanging up the phone.
He knocked, realized Amanda wasn’t home, and went inside. He walked into the second room and saw the lovely place she had created for their child. It was a shade of blue. Clouds were painted on the walls, and toys were scattered throughout.
Chris also entered their bedroom and noticed that everything was essentially the same. He sat on her side of the bed, ready to burst into tears. But he had to keep his cool and think carefully. How am I going to reclaim her and make amends for everything? Is she going to believe me? He thought, but the tears came, and they wouldn’t go away.
He eventually dozed off.
“AAAAH!” Amanda shouted after turning on her room’s light. “Get the hell out of here!” I’m going to call the cops!”
“Amanda!” Chris sprang out of bed. “Amanda! Amanda! It’s me!”
“Chris! Hell! How did you get into this place? Are you crazy? “I was going to pull out a knife!” Amanda shouted and softly tapped his shoulder, then saw his tear-streaked face. “How come you’re here in the first place?”
“We need to discuss…” he said, moistening his dry lips.
“I suppose… I’m not shocked, but it’s still… incredible.” She stated this after telling her the whole tale.
“Yeah,” Chris said, nodding. “I’m very sorry. I should have trusted you. I should have requested additional testing. The news stunned me, and I wasn’t sure whether you’d leave me because you’d always wanted a family. “I was a moron.”
“You were,” Amanda concurred. “But I guess it all makes sense now.” Everything seems to fit. I’m not claiming it’s correct. But I understand.”
“Do you think you can forgive me?”
“Life is too short to hold grudges.”
“Is there any way I can be a part of his life?”
“I’m not sure,” Amanda said, looking down. “It’s been… difficult.” It’s been a lonely time. It’s not what we had in mind. I’m not sure whether there’s any way back.”
She had kept her emotions hidden until now, as tears streamed down her cheeks as she reflected on the past two years. Chris sobbed alongside her.
“I know it’ll take a long time, but I’ll make it up to you.” Whatever happens, even if we can’t continue where we left off, you and he remain my family. My entire family said, “He swore, and Amanda could tell by his hurting, bulging eyes that he was determined.”
“First, you should meet your son, Paul,” Amanda said, wiping her cheeks. “And then we should certainly consider suing Mr. Geoffrey.”
Chris sobbed and smiled at the same moment. Despite everything, she maintained her pleasant demeanor, and as always, she was correct. He needs the services of a lawyer.
