Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise had one of the most publicized marriages of the 1990s, and their divorce rocked the globe. None were as surprised as Kidman, who had not expected her husband to divorce her.
The couple had problems in their marriage, but they did adopt two children who stayed with them their whole lives. Their children are now adults, and they don’t see each other very frequently.
After Cruise and Kidman separated in 2001, they lost communication, and their children were cared for by people close to the pair so that Kidman and Cruise did not have to keep in touch.
Cruise’s spokesman stated that it was good for him that he had little contact with his ex-wife because he did not miss her at all. Each of them married new people and had more children.
Cruise married and subsequently divorced Katie Holmes, but not before having a daughter with the actress, Suri Cruise. Kidman is still married to Keith Urban, whom she married following her divorce from Cruise.
Kidman and Urban are a loving family with their two children, Sunday and Faith. Kidman and Cruise are more discreet about their adopted children, with only one or two updates throughout the years.
Isabella, Kidman and Cruise’s daughter, resides in the UK and considers herself more British because she spent her formative years there. Kidman and Cruise’s son, Connor, lives in Florida and works in the music industry.
Throughout the two decades after their marriage, Cruise and Kidman have stayed courteous, but there is no love lost between them, and they do not like being in one another’s company for any reason.
Others speculate that Cruise skipped the Oscars ceremony in 2023 because of this. Kidman and Urban attended the event on the red carpet and at the Dolby Theatre.
Considering the popularity of the “Topgun” resurrection, many expected Cruise to be there to celebrate the picture and potentially receive an award for the film that was supposed to have “saved Hollywood.”
Nevertheless, Cruise was not present on the red carpet or throughout the event. According to a reliable source:
“[Cruise] wasn’t there because Kidman was, and he didn’t want to have a run-in.”
While Cruise is delighted by his new film’s success and thrilled that it was so well received, he chose not to attend the awards ceremony in order to maintain his peace of mind without meeting Kidman.
Kidman’s career began in 1987, when she was cast in “Vietnam,” an Australian miniseries. After her breakthrough in that role, she featured in the film “Dead Calm,” which earned her a lot of attention.
In one of the circumstances, her nakedness piqued people’s interest. Kidman was one of the people that caught Cruise’s eye. Cruise, who had recently divorced Mimi Rogers, set up a meeting with Kidman.
Kidman was enamored with Cruise because he was one of the biggest stars in the world at the time, and she was just starting her career in Hollywood. The pair married in 1990, when Kidman was 23. When asked about her experience, Kidman revealed:
“I was reeling with Cruise, and I would have gone to any length for him.”
Years later, she realized she was too young and naive when she met Cruise to comprehend properly when their marriage began to fail. Kidman claims that while she was happy for most of her marriage, there were flaws in their foundation.
Kidman went from being almost unknown to being married to a Hollywood star who gave her access to private jets, different homes, limos, and bodyguards. The actress felt like she was being followed all the time.
Due to the presence of the paparazzi surrounding the couple, they were accustomed to being highly controlled when in public, since the tabloids were always speculating about them anytime they walked a foot wrong.
During this time, Cruise and Kidman turned to each other for comfort, and when Kidman had an ectopic pregnancy early in their marriage, they became even closer. When they were unable to conceive again, they chose to adopt their daughter, Isabella.
After three years, they added another child to their family by adopting a little boy named Connor. Cruise and Kidman celebrated their ten-year wedding anniversary five years after adopting their son. Commenting about that moment in her life, Kidman reflected:
“I believed our relationship was wonderful.”
But, two months later, Cruise announced his separation from Kidman and stated that she knew why. Kidman confessed that she begged her ex-husband not to abandon her and their children.
Her identity had become that of Tom Cruise’s wife, and she was scared that once he was gone, no one would be interested in her. Unfortunately, the reverse occurred, and she rose to prominence.
For months, the press sought to figure out what went wrong between the couple and repeatedly pressed them for an explanation as to why their marriage had ended so abruptly.
Neither of them revealed any reasons for their breakup, and Kidman merely stated:
“I’m the type of person that brings everything that has happened to her in the past into the future. But I’m not going to let it make me bitter. I still believe in love and am willing to accept whatever happens to me.”
Yet she subsequently stated that the divorce shook her system and that it took her years to accept it. She now has a nice family life with her new spouse and children.
