Dawn Lyn began her acting career at a young age with a role in the television series “My Three Boys.” She played Dorothy ‘Dodie’ Harper-Douglas in the show from 1969 to 1972, having begun acting as a child. Unfortunately, it was revealed in 2022 that Lyn had gone into a coma following brain surgery.
Leif Garret, Lyn’s biological brother, talked about the procedure. He said that after losing their parents and a cousin, Lyn wanted to keep it a secret. After hearing about Lyn’s death, which was very sad, the news spread quickly on social media, and Lyn’s former co-stars asked the public for help.
Lyn has made significant progress toward recovery since news of her coma surfaced. When Lyn was on life support, her co-stars Stanley Livingstone and Tina Cole kept fans updated. They were continuously tweeting about Lyn’s health struggle, keeping in touch with her husband, John Reese.
When Livingstone and Cole heard that their friend Lyn had brain surgery and went into a coma afterward, they rushed to social media to show their support for Lyn. Livingstone stated that his “little TV sister” was struggling for her life, calling it “devastating news” and extending his condolences to Reese. Cole also requested assistance, writing:
“My deepest thoughts are with my ‘My Three Boys’ dear ‘little’ sis,’ Dawn Lyn (Dodie), and her husband, Reese. Dawn is battling for her life after undergoing brain surgery; please keep her in your prayers as well.”
Tina spent time by Lyn’s bedside, in addition to organizing an army of supportive followers behind her. The actress revealed that she visited Lyn in the hospital when she was unconscious, gripping her hand and chatting with her. Reese kept Tina updated throughout the process, eventually breaking the happy news towards the end of 2022.
Cole and Lyn are still friends over 50 years after they worked together. Cole arrived at her friend’s hospital bed after she had already opened her eyes and begun breathing from her oxygen supply on her own. She was overjoyed to observe Lyn’s growth, but her pal was still unable to answer.
Cole eventually got the wonderful news she had been praying for during Lyn’s four months in the hospital in 2023. Cole was at her grandson’s indoor soccer game when she received a phone call from Lyn. “Dawn, is it really you?” Cole said as she heard her friend’s voice. “Yeah, it’s really me,” Lyn said. Cole made the following observation:
“The tears simply flowed. I was taken aback. And that was simply beautiful. It was impossible for me to believe… Hearing her voice was exciting. They are optimistic that she will be home before Easter. Isn’t that wonderful? Miracles do occur.”
Cole announced the news on her Facebook page shortly after learning of it. Fans were pleased to learn that their prayers had been answered and flocked to social media to express their delight. One commenter replied to Cole’s message, writing, “That’s fantastic to hear. And how wonderful that they are still in contact after all these years.”
Lyn is currently recuperating with her beloved husband, Reese.
Another user responded to Cole’s message, praising her for keeping her informed. “My prayers are with Dawn; what a God-given miracle, Tina!” Thank you for telling me about a young girl from my youth!” “I’m very delighted to discover this…wonderful news!” said one user.
Cole expressed gratitude to the people for their ongoing support. She also stated that Lyn’s husband, Reese, was appreciative of all of the warm words and “good feedback.” Cole stated that she believes the outpouring of prayers from fans made all the difference, saying, “I’m a strong believer in the power of prayer.”
While Lyn’s brother tried to keep the news of her operation hidden, he was grateful for the warm words and prayers. When the news of her health initially leaked, he issued a statement stating, “Please keep my sister in your prayers and keep our family’s privacy in mind. Thank you very much.”
While Lyn and Reese have been together for many years, Reese is not the actress’s first husband.
Lyn is currently recuperating with her beloved husband, Reese. Since 2006, the couple has been blissfully married. Lyn and Reese packed their belongings and relocated to Hawaii shortly after their wedding because Reese was reassigned to his job. The two made themselves at home on the island, riding their motorcycles and hiking.
Lyn also likes snorkeling, reading, and cuddling up with Reese to watch a good movie in her spare time. Although Lyn hasn’t taken on any new jobs as she’s gotten older, she has been involved in a number of business projects. She mentioned her diminutive size as one of the reasons she couldn’t obtain more acting
Lyn, on the other hand, didn’t allow her stature to hold her back. Lyn utilized her economic acumen to create a store on Pier 39 in San Francisco, sustaining herself until she and Reese moved away. While the actress hasn’t had any recent roles, she has stated that she is open to any roles that catch her eye.
Lyn has also dabbled in voice acting, appeared in a few more TV episodes, and even appeared in a few films. Lyn also advised young child performers and their parents about the profession, explaining what to expect and how to deal with the obstacles that come with it.
While Lyn and Reese have been together for many years, Reese is not the actress’s first husband. She married Michael Whitby in 1990, but the couple divorced in 2001. Reese and Lyn are not breaking up, and Lyn is “extremely delighted” to hear how her followers supported her while she was battling for her life.
