When David Crosby passed away, he and Graham Nash, who had been longtime bandmates, were on the path to reconciliation with one another after years of conflict.
In an interview Nash and Young member Graham Nash, who is now 81 years old, discussed his grief over the passing of Crosby. Nash said that he takes solace in the fact that he and Young had been on the verge of reconciling after a falling out in recent years.
“The reality is that we were drawing ever so little closer to the finish line.
When I checked my voicemail, he had left a message stating that he wanted to chat to apologize, and he asked if there was a time that we could talk “Nash stated. “I responded to his email by saying, ‘OK, phone me at eleven o’clock tomorrow your time, which is two o’clock on the East Coast.’ This is the time difference between the two coasts. He never phoned, and suddenly he disappeared without a trace.”
The artist said that he received the message not long before Crosby passed away on January 19 at the age of 81 after a protracted illness; it caused him to speculate as to whether the late icon was aware that he was in his last days.
“He was a guy of exceptional intelligence. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if he was aware that he was truly in the very last spot.
The fact of the matter is that we have been anticipating David’s passing for twenty years “he remarked, “since his liver transplant in [1994] and following all of his stent procedures. He had seven stents. His physical condition was deteriorating rapidly.
But once again, all I can do is attempt to recall the wonderful moments we’ve had together, and there have been many of them… I only want to focus on the positive aspects of what we accomplished together.”
Crosby’s passing prompted a torrent of condolences from his other bandmates, too, notably from Stills, who called him “the glue that kept us together.”
“David and I have had a number of run-ins with one other over the years, but most of the time they were just brush-bys, yet they still managed to leave our brains numb. I was pleased to be at peace with him,” he stated.
“He was without a doubt a behemoth of a musician, and his harmonic senses were nothing short of genius…
I am devastated to hear of his demise and know that I will miss him beyond all comprehension.vDavid is gone, but his music lives on,” he stated on his website.
