Graham Nash has said that he had intentions of calling David Crosby prior to Crosby’s passing: “Only a Tiny bit Too Late…”

When David Crosby passed away, Graham Nash and David Crosby, his estranged former bandmate, had impending plans to talk to one another.

Nash tells that the musician, who is 81 years old, and Crosby had planned to have a FaceTime session in the hopes of achieving a reconciliation until Crosby passed away on January 19 at the age of 81.

“Crosby and I were getting closer toward the end there, and he did call me and we did set up a time to be able to FaceTime each other,” Nash said on Wednesday at the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize concert honoring Joni Mitchell.

“I’m sorry to say, but it was a little bit too late. Unfortunately, he didn’t live to see us accomplish that goal.”

Despite this, the singer claims that he has found solace in the knowledge that he and his bandmate in Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young were moving in the direction of harmony.

Nash adds, “We were getting closer and he left me a message saying that he believes that he needs to apologize for some things that he said, and that made me smile.”

The rocker, who will release his first album in seven years on May 19, previously opened up about the loss of Crosby in an interview. His willingness to reach out made Nash wonder whether he knew that he was in his final days.

“He was a guy of exceptional intelligence. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if he was aware that he was truly in the very last spot. The fact of the matter is that we have been anticipating David’s passing for twenty years “he remarked.

“After his liver transplant in [1994] and following all of his stent procedures, he had seven stents, his physical condition was deteriorating rapidly. Yet once again, all I can do is attempt to recall the wonderful moments we’ve had together, and there have been many of them… I only want to focus on the positive aspects of what we accomplished together.”

The year 1968 marked the beginning of Nash and Crosby’s collaboration, which also included Stephen Stills; the band would go on to include Neil Young in its lineup. In the 1970s, the pair temporarily went their own ways as Crosby and Nash, and in 2004, they recorded the duo’s last album together under that name.

By the year 2021, after years of additional conflict involving other band members, Crosby and Nash had also fallen out of favor with one another. In the same year, Crosby stated in an interview that Nash was “absolutely my enemy,” and that the two of them hadn’t spoken to one another for a number of years. Also, he was not open to the possibility of a future reconciliation.
