The 2023 SAG Awards were held last night, and some unexpected revelations were made amid great hype. At the opening ceremony, Jamie Lee Curtis earned a standing ovation when she shouted, “I’m an actor,” in the show’s typical introduction.
Curtis then talked about her history, including how she got her first SAG card at the age of 19 for a role in the film Operation Petticoat. The television sitcom was based on the film of the same name, in which Curtis played Tony Curtis. Regrettably, Curtis was employed and then fired from the project before anything significant happened.
Janet Leigh, Curtis’ mother, was also a well-known actress. Her most famous part was in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho.
“Nepo, Nepo!” Curtis yelled about herself, and the audience busted out laughing.
Curtis was sacked from Operation Petticoat, which was either tragic or lucky. Getting fired opened up her schedule, allowing her to sign up for a “small, no-budget horror picture,” which led to her successful run in the Halloween franchise.
She began to open herself to the media following her victory. “I make fun of it because that’s what people make fun of. But the fact is that I’ve been doing this for a long time and have never worked for anyone I’ve ever known. Nobody, I mean.” I’ve only ever worked with strangers,” claimed the actress.
“The reality of the issue is that, certainly, it was an assistance,” she continued. “Of course, I know a lot about the entertainment business,” she continued. “I’m not going to pretend that having them as parents had no influence on me. But I’m 64 years old and have worked as an actor since I was 19.”
“This is called entertainment. This is the season of glitz and glam. It’s lovely attention. It’s a work of art.” It’s seeing lovely individuals in fancy gowns,” Curtis explained. “Yet we’re all genuine humans living on a war-torn planet. And most people have a really difficult existence out there, and they see show business, or what I call show-off business, as a distraction.”
“It’s entertainment, and if we’re not having fun, if we seem really serious, there’s a problem,” she continued. “Because if we’re not having fun, the folks watching us aren’t either. So, what do you think? We’re having a good time.”
Jamie Lee Curtis is open about her parents’ Hollywood legacy. We wish her the best of luck throughout this award season.
