Which American Idol participant is your favorite?
If you’ve been watching for a while, you’ll recognize many of the most recognized faces. Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken were there, as well as Fantasia Barrino and Carrie Underwood. Many of them have gone on to have great solo careers and continue to play all around the globe.
Nonetheless, few people have had as much of an influence on mainstream culture as season one’s winner, country singer Kelly Clarkson.
Clarkson has secured a record contract with RCA following her appearance on the program, and she has issued hit record after hit record.
Her first track, “A Moment Like This,” topped the Billboard charts and became the best-selling country single of 2002. Following that, she launched her first album, which also charted well. She moved away from country music and towards pop music for her next breakthrough album, Breakaway, which was released in 2004. She has sold over 25 million albums and 45 million singles worldwide to date. She’s been asked to perform on several TV programs and big award ceremonies as a result of her accomplishment.
Kelly Clarkson returned to American Idol in its final season in 2016 as a guest performer to perform “Piece by Piece,” her most latest hit at the time.
Clarkson was pregnant with her second child when she appeared on the program. Clarkson begins her performance as soon as the lights are turned on and she comes out. Her voice is rich, passionate, and affecting, as it usually is, and it’s shown on the judges’ faces. Despite the fact that everyone is visibly affected by the song, the camera finally focuses on one judge in particular.
Clarkson tells the story of how her father abandoned her and her family throughout the song.
When it starts, she remembers seeing her father’s back at the airport as he leaves their family in the past. Later, she tells how she rebuilt the love she didn’t have from her father on her own—with her husband Brandon Blackstock, to whom she is still married! It doesn’t take long for the rest of the crowd to get filled with emotion as well.
