Many people will remember Kelsey Grammar as Fraiser from the legendary show. Today, that actor’s career has taken a different direction; he has begun taking on projects that are personally meaningful to him. And many people may be startled by his views on faith—after all, it’s not something you’d expect from a Hollywood actor.
Kelsey Grammer has completed his latest endeavor, Jesus Revolution. The film is based on the actual tale of Pastor Chuck Smith, a devout Christian who invited hippies to bring rock music to his young church. Smith receives assistance from street preacher Lonnie Frisbee throughout his journey.
Kelsey Grammar, 68, is pleased with the outcome and saw the finished film with his wife Kayte Walsh.
“It’s incredibly encouraging.” It’s a good film,” Grammer said to USA Today. “My wife and I both witnessed it. She was completely overcome with emotion and said, ‘It’s the nicest thing you’ve ever done.'”
Although the actor became a full-fledged protestant, he was reared as a Christian Scientist. He recalls fondly the Jesus hippie movement of the 1960s and 1970s.
“I thought it was great to see how happy and hopeful they were,” the actor said.
Grammer also admired pastor Chuck Smith’s embrace of the introduction of counterculture into his church.
“What Chuck did goes back to one of Christianity’s core teachings, which is inclusiveness,” Grammer said in an interview. “He reasoned, ‘Well, I’m doing it this way and people aren’t listening,'”‘ so he ultimately gave up. ‘You show me a hippie, and I’ll listen,’ he replied.
“Sure enough, he and Lonnie Frisbee had a pretty dynamic friendship. It turned into a fantastic journey that is still ongoing. His (Calvary Chapel) church grew to 1,000 congregations across the country and is still in operation. “Christian current music is exploding, and (the Jesus movement) has brought it right to his door,” the actor explained.
In his personal life, the actor is a devout Christian. “I’ve experienced hiccups,” he explained. I’ve been through some difficult moments. I’ve fought with them and worked my way through them, at times rejecting religion, at times rejecting God, in a moment when I was quite upset about it, like, ‘Where were you?’ This sort of thing.”
He went on to discuss his current location in life in terms of religion. “But I’ve accepted it and found wonderful peace in my religion and in Jesus. It’s not arrogant to say that Jesus changed my life. It is not something for which I will apologize.”
We wish the actor the best of luck in his future endeavors. It’s fascinating to hear about his present religious beliefs. What do you think of actor Kelsey Grammar’s religious beliefs?
