In the year 2023, Michael Jordan is still breaking records in his sport.
In celebration of his 60th birthday this coming Friday, the NBA legend gave a record-setting contribution of $10 million to the organization that grants wishes in the United States.
Make-A-Wish said on Wednesday that the generous donation given by Jordan is the single greatest contribution made by an individual in the organization’s history.
Jordan said in a statement, “It’s been a pleasure to collaborate with Make-A-Wish and help bring a smile and happiness to so many children over the last 34 years.” Make-A-Wish is an organization that grants wishes for children who are unable to get medical care.
“Being able to see their fortitude and resiliency in the face of such a challenging situation in their life has really been an inspiration.” In addition, the legendary player for the Chicago Bulls said that he “can’t think of a greater birthday present than having people join” him in providing support for the organization.
Jordan expresses the sincere desire that the contribution would make it possible for “every youngster” to “experience the magic of having their dream come true.”
Leslie Motter, President and Chief Executive Officer of Make-A-Wish America, praised Michael Jordan for his ability to leave a legacy both on and off the basketball court.
Motter said in a statement, “Everyone knows about Michael’s legacy on the basketball court, but it is what he has consistently done off the court when no one’s watching that makes him a true legend for wish families and the wider Make-A-Wish community.”
It has just been two years since Jordan made a contribution of $10 million to help build two new health facilities in his home state of North Carolina. Novant Health, which had already received 7 million dollars from Jordan in 2017, “I am very proud to once again partner with Novant Health to expand the Family Clinic model to bring better access to critical medical services in my hometown.
