Even though John Amos is well into his 80s, he still knows how to have a good time.
This is seen by the fact that he has no problem setting aside his cane, despite the fact that he has difficulty walking, in order to engage in an emotional dance with his daughter. That’s right; he did just that in October 2022, just a few short weeks before he became 83 years old!
John is best known for his parts in the television series “Good Times” and the mini-series “Roots.”
After that, he went on to feature in a large number of further television shows in addition to a few films, one of which being the sequel to the Eddie Murphy film “Coming to America,” titled “Coming 2 America.”
When John was a student at Colorado State University, he became acquainted with Noel Mickelson, an artist and equestrian originally from Estherville, Iowa. John married Noel. There were still 16 states in the United States that did not recognize interracial marriage at the time that the couple tied the knot.
They had two children together, a girl named Shannon and a boy named Kelly Christopher Amos, the latter of whom is more often referred to as K.C.
“It was love at first sight for the two of them. However, it was a turbulent period in the world around them,” Shannon wrote in her journal in June of 2020. The love that John and Mickelson had for one another did not waiver in the face of the obstacles that were placed in their path.
Since Shannon was subjected to prejudice, this wasn’t an easy accomplishment by any means.
But, as a result of the unconditional love and support provided by their parents, she and her brother K.C. were able to make it through all of those difficult times. K.C., John’s only kid, looks precisely like him.
Along the same lines as his father, he has tried his hand at acting, and he also has some experience directing, and he has even been nominated for a Grammy. Yet, he is most recognized for being a video editor who is clearly passionate about his profession, as seen by the many posts he makes on his various social media platforms.
For K.C., his father’s part in “Good Times” was more than simply something he performed on TV for a profession; rather, it was something that taught him valuable lessons virtually every week.
He added. “The show changed the look of shows that depicted African-American families.”
John is able to maintain his sense of humor despite being in his eighties. At a fundraiser for a good cause in Denver, Colorado, in July 2021, John was captured on film by his son KC, who then posted it on Instagram.
In November of 2022, John uploaded a video on the internet showing him and K.C. lip-syncing to a song while having a nice time together.
Yet K.C. isn’t the only member of the family that has a strong relationship with their parent; his sister, Shannon, does as well. In October 2022, John’s daughter Shannon uploaded a touching video on the internet in which her father was seen dancing with her to the tune of “Dance With My Father” by Luther Vandross.
John let go of his cane despite the fact that he already had difficulty walking and went on to experience an emotional moment with his daughter. The event was significant for both of them. As further evidence of the unshakable link that exists between him and his daughter, he even kissed her on the cheeks and her forehead as they were dancing together.
Shannon expressed her gratitude to her father on Twitter by tweeting, “Grateful for this priceless time with my Dad @officialjohnamos.”
In addition, Shannon issued a challenge to other individuals to participate in the challenge and celebrate such a priceless moment that any kid could ever hope for. She made a statement to the effect of saying, “If you’re privileged to still have your Dad, we dare you to create a beautiful moment.”
