Rom-com fav Emma Thompson reveals her thoughts on love, saying “Romantic love is a myth, it is necessary to think rationally about love and the ways in which it might develop…”

Rom-com royal Emma Thompson, an actual, real-life dame, is well-versed in the realm of love; but, in a recent interview, she insisted that all of the things that we see in movies are “very hazardous,” and that a happy ending is not something that anybody should actually hope to see.

Thompson had been promoting her most recent film, What’s Love Got to Do With It?, when she was overheard musing on the reality that romantic ideals may be entertaining to see, but they are all just fantasies.

She would know as well, having featured in such timeless romantic comedies as Love Actually, Sense and Sensibility, Last Christmas, and Bridget Jones’s Baby, to mention just a few of her now-iconic roles.

“It is both intellectually beneficial and inspiring to realize that romantic love is a fiction and rather dangerous, it is imperative that we process this information with a healthy amount of skepticism.

It is necessary to think rationally about love and the ways in which it might develop.

Relationships that last for a long time are often challenging and complex. Forget about it if someone believes that our lives have room for a nice ending that lasts forever.” Because Thompson and her husband, Greg Wise, have been married for the last two decades and have been together the whole time, she can speak from personal experience.

She went on to provide a few instances of how she and Wise make things work, such as ensuring that everyone gets a chance to decide what’s physically being shown on the television.

She said that none one of us had any type of connection or history with the remote control.

“The two of us spend the whole time aimlessly roaming about the room, tapping our hands on the carpet, and asking each other, “Where is the remote?” We are both the epitome of sad behavior.”
