Soap star Susan Lucci has only been married once in her lifetime to her beloved husband of over fifty years, Helmut Huber. Despite their age gap, the couple seemed to fit perfectly

Susan Lucci, the star of “All My Children,” took a risk in finding her happily ever after. Before she met her future husband, Helmut Huber, she was engaged to another guy who was driving the automobile that caused her accident.

Even though the situation was dangerous, Lucci, who is from New York, did not break off the engagement because of it.

She was engaged to her then-fiance while studying acting at Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York. The former couple was in an automobile accident, and her partner was the driver. Their vehicle collided with another.

She told People in June 1999 that she felt no pain at the time but knew she had been gravely harmed. When Lucci arrived at the emergency department, staff mentioned her in the past tense, saying how lovely she was before the tragedy.

One noticed her engagement ring and inquired whether he would still marry her despite her injuries. Lucci also thought she would never get better, but when she found a plastic surgeon who did miracles on her face, she said, “I definitely got better.”

When she met her future husband, Huber, who was an executive chef at the Garden City Hotel in New York, where she worked as a server, she was just 18 years old. Lucci told Yahoo Lifestyle in January 2019 that after recognizing Huber, she turned to one of her best friends and inquired who he was.

“She responded, ‘He’s your employer, idiot,'” recounted the “Ebbie” actor. Huber, who is nine years older than Lucci, had a “wow” moment when he first saw her. However, she was not romantically drawn to him, prompting him to say:

“Meanwhile, she got engaged to another guy.” “Could you imagine?”

But that didn’t last long. Lucci’s parents held her engagement party at the same Long Island hotel where they ran into Huber in the corridor. Her mother had invited him to the momentous event.

While seated next to her then-fiance, Lucci began to notice how gorgeous Huber, who happened to be sitting directly across from them, was and tried to deny her thoughts by saying:

“There’s something wrong with this image. But I had no idea what to do with it.”

Huber, her senior, went to her mother and remarked, “She deserves a man, not a boy.” She wasn’t the only one who was curious about what might be.That was the final push Lucci needed to call off her engagement, even though she wasn’t sure where things would go between her and Huber.

Huber emphasized his plans to Lucci in the early stages of their relationship, indicating he wanted to marry her. She, on the other hand, needs more time.

Except for her, the starlet claimed in an interview with Your Tango in August 2020 that it was love at first sight for Huber. That changed when she realized what she liked about him: he was decisive, persuasive, and made her laugh.

Despite appearing to have a sluggish start, the couple’s romance quickly took off. After only three months of dating, Huber declared his desire to spend the rest of his life with Lucci, and she eventually said “yes.” The couple married on September 13, 1969, less than a year later.

Huber previously told People that when Lucci entered his life, his entire universe transformed for the better. Even after marriage, he was still infatuated with Lucci and gave up his work as a hotel and restaurant owner in 1982 to handle his beautiful wife’s Hollywood career, saying:

“I still light up when she enters a room.”

Huber began his work as an apprentice at the Hotel Maria Theresia in Switzerland when he was 18 years old. He moved to Canada at the age of 21 and then to New York two years later. He was the Knott Hotel Corporation’s head of food and beverage by his late twenties, and he relocated to Garden City, Long Island, in the 1960s.

Huber’s devotion and affection for Lucci remained unwavering over the years. It had not been easy for him to be married to an ever-beautiful TV celebrity. Despite the fact that Lucci worked with many men on television, particularly her on-screen character Erica Kane, who went in and out of relationships on “All My Children,” he maintained his confidence.

Huber was asked how they make their marriage work despite her hectic career on “The Talk” in April 2011. He remarked that none of that mattered because she came home to him every night and that, despite their lengthy marriage, it felt like it had only been three weeks to him.

“I can’t wait for her to return home to me. “And you say 41 years, yet it feels like three weeks to me.”

During their 50th wedding anniversary party in June 2019, Lucci frankly told Closer Weekly that she believed Huber was her eternal love, saying:

“Helmut does not appear to be the type to make you giggle. He has a commanding appearance, yet he is also incredibly witty. “The mix is fantastic.”
