Taylor Lautner claims that the Edward vs. Jacob debate among “Twilight” fans had an effect on his relationship with Robert Pattinson…

Taylor Lautner is not afraid to speak his mind on how the debate between Team Edward and Team Jacob in the Twilight series impacted his real-life relationship with co-star Robert Pattinson.

On Thursday’s episode of The Toast podcast, the actor, who is now 30 years old, appeared alongside his wife Taylor Dome Lautner. He admitted that he’d “be lying” if he said the infamous fan debates over who reigned supreme between his and Pattinson’s characters didn’t affect him.

He went on to explain the “extremely odd” experience he had when “crossing the globe and being in various locations and having thousands of shouting supporters either take your side or the other guy’s side.”

“Like, we’re a team. We’re both simply trying to produce the greatest movies we can… but the rivalry between us was a bit strange, to say the least “Lautner stated. Even though there was no sense of competition between Rob and I, the fact that we were reminded of it all the time certainly had an effect.”

In order to play the part, the actor in New Moon has to undergo a remarkable metamorphosis from human to wolf form. At the time, he believed that his practice of going to the gym five days a week and eating a diet consisting of 3,200 calories per day were the reasons he was able to get into werewolf condition.

“It was everything I had done up to that point,” he said in part. “In the first movie, I was 140 lbs., and in New Moon I was 175. Therefore, it’s safe to say it wasn’t my original body. I had to put in a lot of effort to get it, and then I had to keep working really hard to keep it.”
