Taylor Swift’s cat Olivia Benson is worth more than a lot of today’s celebrities

Taylor Swift is wealthier than most of us will ever be, but it appears that her fortune extends to her favorite felines—or at least one in particular. Olivia Benson, Swift’s cat, is the world’s third wealthiest pet, according to AllAboutCats.com, which compiled a Forbes-style list of the world’s wealthiest cats using data that evaluated each creature’s net worth through Instagram postings, inherited earnings, and other known financial pursuits.

The cat, named after Mariska Hargitay’s character on Law & Order: SVU, is reputedly worth $97 million, a staggering sum that pales in contrast to her owner’s $570 million net worth. The cat is almost as wealthy as Hargitay, who has a reputed net worth of $100 million, according to Parade. Unlike many of the pets on the list, Swift does not have an Instagram page for Olivia or any of her cats, who only appear on her social media on occasion, implying that the cat has accumulated her fortune via other means.

Instead, the Scottish Fold cat’s net worth stems from appearances in multiple of Swift’s music videos, including “Blank Space,” as well as “cameos in several big-budget commercials, notably for the likes of Diet Coke and Ned Sneakers.” The singer has previously sold goods depicting her kitties on her web store, with the proceeds going to Olivia.

When it comes to wealthy cats, Olivia is second only to Nala Cat, who holds the Guinness World Record for having the most Instagram followers and is estimated to be worth $100 million. However, much to their dismay, both cats were beaten out by a dog. Gunther VI, a German shepherd, is said to be the world’s wealthiest pet, with a net worth that rivals Swift’s. Gunther III, the dog’s grandpa, acquired an $80 million fortune from his owner, the German Countess Karlotta Leibenstein, and his net worth has increased to $500 million because of Gunther Corporation investments (yes, the dog has his own estate).

Swift’s other two cats, Meredith Grey (named after the Grey’s Anatomy character) and Benjamin Button (inspired by Brad Pitt’s film), are not included, therefore their net worth is unknown. Given that Swift just acquired Benjamin in 2019 after he appeared in her music video for “ME!” and Meredith is notoriously reluctant to do, well, anything, Olivia is most likely the wealthiest feline in her family.
