The officer risks his life in the storm to save his K-9 partner, “I love that dog…”

The city of Deer Park, Texas, had just been devastated by an EF-3 tornado, and among the numerous stories that emerged as a result of the terrible and frightening event is the one of Officer Joel and his K-9 companion.

A police officer from Texas named Joel Nitchman is being hailed as a hero for his attempts to save his K-9 companion during a storm when they were both in danger. Since it was captured on tape, the courageous act has gained widespread attention.

When the event occurred, the K9 named Roni was safely ensconced in his kennel inside the police vehicle.

Since 2018, Roni and Nitchman had been working together, and the dog had never let him down when it came to protecting him. “The idea of objects flying at me, or the automobile turning over… That was not something I could not do to him,” Nitchman said, “I couldn’t have him out there when that was going on.”

The officer was able to get Roni out of the vehicle despite the heavy winds, the rain, and the debris that was flying about everywhere.

There was even a period when there was absolutely no visibility, which made the rescue attempts that much more difficult. However, Officer Joel was adamant on rescuing Roni and getting her to a secure location.

They could be seen a few moments later hurriedly making their way back inside to the protection of the station building. The cop said that it was an experience unlike any other in his whole life and that he had never had it happen to him before.

The police officer continued by saying that his partner, a K-9, is more than simply a service dog.

“That dog has my heart. Nitchman said, “He’s my hip attachment practically every day of the week, he has always been a member of our family. We are unable to abandon a loved one in such a state. There was no way that I was going to abandon him in such a state.”

The officer also said that he did what he needed to do and that he would not think twice about doing it again in a flash if he had the opportunity. They have now returned to their employment and are working even more closely together than before.

Nitchman expressed his gratitude by saying, “I’m so glad he’s OK.”
