The episode of American Idol that aired recently was packed with unforgettable moments and jaw-dropping performances, but the one that really stood out was Katharine McPhee’s duet with Willie Spence.
Willie Spence has been in the public eye ever since the beginning of this season of American Idol. He stunned the judges when he informed them that he intended to win a GRAMMY within the next five years, which propelled him to the forefront of the competition.
It was taken to a whole new level by Spence and McPhee’s powerful duet performance of “The Prayer,” which displayed the Idol hopeful’s range to perfection.
Katherine McPhee, who finished in second place during the fifth season of American Idol in 2006 and seemed to be absolutely awestruck by the voice and ability shown by Spence, was the show’s runner-up that year.
Spence gave “The Prayer” as a tribute to his late grandpa, while McPhee did the same for her late father, who passed away in July of 2018. Both of these tributes gave “The Prayer” a special meaning for the two of them.
Willie Spencer has had a number of spectacular performances on American Idol, but his rendition of Bette Midler’s “Wind Beneath My Wings” is without a doubt the most impressive of any of them.
You will undoubtedly feel moved to tears by their performance, as they have put their whole hearts and souls into it.
