Even though Mick Jagger is one of the most famous rock artists in the world, his relationship with Melanie Hamrick is considered to be somewhat private.
When the former ballerina and the vocalist of the Rolling Stones first met in 2014, the Rolling Stones frontman already had seven children of his own. After dating for two years, the pair became pregnant in 2016, giving birth to Jagger’s eighth child, a boy named Deveraux Octavian Basil.
According to an interview she gave to Marie Claire in 2017, before the birth of her first son, Hamrick didn’t have much experience with children and lived what she described as “a pretty basic existence.”
“You don’t become a ballet dancer thinking about having children,” she went on to say later on in the conversation.
In spite of the high-profile nature of their connection, Hamrick does not post too much information on social media about Jagger. She prefers to confine herself to posting photographs of her dancing work and her son Deveraux.

Hamrick was raised in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she started her training in ballet at a young age.
She attended the Kirov Academy of Ballet on scholarship for a total of five years, during which time she studied ballet under the tutelage of renowned dancer Alla Sizova, as well as with professors Nicolai Morozov and Adrienne Dellas.
She became a member of the main ensemble of the illustrious American Ballet Theatre in April 2004, and since that time she has appeared in a variety of productions with the company, including Apollo, The Nutcracker, and Balanchine’s Theme and Variations.
In February of 2014, when the American Ballet Theatre and The Rolling Stones were both performing in Tokyo as part of their respective world tours, Hamrick and her companions had the opportunity to meet Jagger backstage during a Stones show.
It wasn’t until June of that year that Jagger asked Hamrick to accompany him and the rest of his band to Zurich that their friendship blossomed into a romantic relationship. Deveraux “Devi” Octavian Basil Jagger was born to Hamrick on December 8th, 2016.
As Deveraux has matured, he has developed an appreciation for music and dancing, much like his mother and father. Even during his father’s concerts and his mother’s ballet performances, he has been seen showing his support for his family.
The ballet Porte Rouge was created via the couple’s collaboration in the spring of 2019.
Hamrick, who made the announcement about the project on Instagram, was in charge of choreographing the ballet, while Jagger used The Rolling Stones’ back catalog to put the final touches on the soundtrack.
On Instagram in July of 2019, Hamrick made the announcement that she will be retiring from the American Ballet Theatre.
