Woman on life support recovers miraculously and sees her child after birth while on ventilator

Autumn and Zack Carver were overjoyed and eager to have their third child in 2021.

They had no idea how difficult the delivery of their son would be.

Autumn, an Indiana mother who had an emergency cesarean section while being treated for COVID-19, made headlines when she was allowed to embrace her newborn boy for the first time in more than seven weeks.

Autumn Carver, 34, hugged her baby Huxley for the first time on Oct. 19, 2021, in the same Indiana hospital where she gave birth in an emergency C-section on Aug. 27 at 33 weeks pregnant.

In August, the 34-year-old expectant mother and her husband Zach both tested positive for COVID. Zach had a temperature, but Autumn had lung difficulties and was placed on a ventilator.

She was airlifted to Methodist Hospital, where her third child, Huxley Carver, was born. Huxley was hospitalized for ten days, but Autumn was placed on life support.

Autumn battled valiantly, and she was able to hug her new baby for the first time over two months later.

“It was really emotional for myself, for her parents, and for Autumn,” her husband, Zach Carver, told Good Morning America. “That’s why she’s battling so hard to go home to our kids.”

Her husband described his wife as the kindest and most loving person, whose smile could light up a room.

“A surprising meeting with a doctor this morning pulled us out of seclusion and a plan for Autumn to meet Huxley,” Zach said on Facebook. The same conversation informed us that Autumn Carver’s tracheotomy would be replaced with a smaller one so she could use a speaking device.

“Around 3 p.m. today she saw our son, and it was a fantastic moment, needless to say. Her parents, one of her best friends, and a slew of nurses and physicians were all present to witness the momentous occasion. I’m not sure if there was a dry eye in the vicinity. Autumn said, ‘I adore Zach,’ later this afternoon. What a fantastic day!

“We have a long way to go, but a good day like this was much needed. Autumn expresses gratitude for all of the prayers and support she has received along the way. ” May God bless you.”

The three-parent mother was subsequently sent to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.  According to FaithTap, her lungs are in very bad shape, and she may need a lung transplant at some point.

“She is becoming stronger and is able to move about our room without a walker more and more,” Zach said in an update on his wife’s condition on November 17.

“We went from she’s going to die to she’ll need a full lung transplant so she’ll go home,” he explained. “It’s a complete miracle.”

That is truly a miracle, and it demonstrates this mother’s bravery in recovering so she can be there for her children; I’m so happy this supermom is on the mend.
