Will Smith was given a ten-year exclusion from the Academy Awards as a result of the notorious Oscars slap. This is a very exceptional punishment, and only a select few celebrities have ever been given such a sentence.
The question now is, who else has been denied entry to the illustrious ceremony? We’re going to take a walk down memory lane and investigate the most contentious disqualifications in the history of the Oscars.
Richard Gere – After using his presenting position at the 1993 awards presentation to criticize the Chinese government’s colonization of Tibet, Richard Gere was literally kicked out of the Oscars for the next 20 years, much to the amazement of his legions of devoted followers.
After deviating from the prepared remarks, the star of Beautiful Woman criticized the “awful, horrendous human rights situation,” which led to his exclusion from the Academy. Richard was unimpressed by the news that he would be allowed to attend the 2013 Oscars despite the fact that the restriction had been lifted formally.
In an interview, he stated: “It would seem that I’ve successfully completed rehabilitation, it would seem that if you remain in the area for a sufficient amount of time, they will forget that they have banned you.”
Carmine Caridi – Carmine Caridi, who is most known for his parts in “The Godfather Part II” and “The Godfather Part III,” was the first individual to ever be expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2004.
Caridi was expelled for misconduct. The actor was kicked out of the program when allegations appeared online that he had unlawfully sent screeners of future movies on VHS to a friend. These allegations were made public online.
In a matter that was looked into by the FBI in great detail, Carmen was served with a lawsuit by Sony and Time Warner on civil allegations of copyright infringement, but in the end, he was exonerated of any guilt related to the incident.
Despite this, the actor was not allowed to perform again since he had broken the deal he had made to protect their screeners. Later, in 2019, the actor who played the Godfather passed away.
