Julie Andrews and Cher pay tribute to the iconic performer as she turns 90

The groundbreaking comedy legend Carol Burnett turns 90 today, which is a significant occasion.

Carol Burnett is still going strong and is celebrating her big day in style. Tonight, NBC will air a special honoring the legendary actress called Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter and Love.

Many of Hollywood’s biggest stars were present at the event, and they sang Burnett’s praises on the red carpet.

Julie Andrews, the renowned Sound of Music actress and a close friend of Burnett, was present. The Hollywood Reporter quotes Andrews as saying, “She brings out the best in me, and I think I bring out the worst in her; I don’t know why.” “It’s the complete opposite of what you’d think.”

Many years ago, Burnett and Andrews met at a Chinese restaurant, and according to Andrews, no one else could speak. Burnett referred to their “never-ending friendship” as something that they “bonded over and it has never changed.”

Cher, a legendary musician, also talked openly about her friendship with Carol Burnett.

We would play practical jokes on one another, as Cher recalled: “I would sneak out through the fence to go to the farmer’s market.” That was all we wanted to do because it was simple and enjoyable.

The Hollywood Reporter quoted actress Jane Lynch as saying, “I was firmly in love; she’s exactly the person that you hope she would be,” when describing her first encounter with Burnett.

Lily Tomlin, Steve Carell, Laura Dern, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Oprah, Michelle Obama, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Allison Janney, Jimmy Fallon, and Ellen DeGeneres are just a few of the well-known people who are reportedly appearing on the tribute show, which was taped in March.

Some of the biggest names on Broadway, including Bernadette Peters, Billy Porter, Sutton Foster, and Kristin Chenoweth, will perform musical numbers in Burnett’s honor, according to Playbill. Burnett has performed on Broadway before; for her roles in Moon Over Buffalo and Once Upon a Mattress, she received Tony nominations.

In a statement, Burnett said, “I’m so happy NBC decided to throw me a birthday party and invited all of my closest friends.” I feel so fortunate to be able to share this night with everyone, and I can’t wait to look back at so many amazing moments throughout my career.”

The Carol Burnett Show, Carol Burnett’s groundbreaking variety and sketch series that aired on CBS for 11 seasons, is best known. Burnett, who is widely regarded as a trailblazer for female comedians, hosted the first show of its kind.

She recently received a number of lifetime achievement awards, including the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award and the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

She was the first recipient of the “Carol Burnett Award,” a lifetime achievement award for television that the Golden Globes named after her in 2019.

In the previous year, she made a comeback to television in a significant guest star role on Better Call Saul’s final season.

Before turning 90, Burnett said in an interview that she doesn’t feel her age and referred to herself as a “late bloomer” in the entertainment industry.

Burnett told People Magazine, “I can’t get my head around it.” I’m amazed, but I still feel like I’m around 11.” It moved very quickly. But I’m glad that I have all of my body parts, including my hips, knees, and brain, and I’m content with that.

Greetings on the historic birthday of Carol Burnett! It’s so touching to see so many well-known celebrities turn out to honor this innovative comedy icon.
