Susan Lucci is a real American household name, whether you admire her for her baby-doll voice, outstanding performances, or dazzling smile. The famed Hollywood actress and dancer has had a long and successful career, but she is arguably best remembered for her role as Erica Kane on the iconic soap opera All My Children.
Some of us may be unaware that Lucci was blessed with a fantastic life companion for nearly five decades: her husband, Helmut Huber.
Susan and the Austrian native Huber met while she was a hardworking waiter at a hotel where Huber happened to be the head chef. When they met, Lucci was engaged, and Huber had even attended her engagement party.
“I remarked to one of my buddies, ‘Who is that?'” In 2019, Lucci told Yahoo Lifestyle, “And she said, ‘He’s your employer, idiot.'”
Their attraction and collaboration were obvious from the beginning, and they remained excellent friends. When Lucci became single, she couldn’t help but fall in love with Huber.
They married in 1969 and were married for 53 years, until Huber died in March 2022, profoundly loving and supporting each other.
The two were one of Hollywood’s most famous power couples. Yet Huber was more than simply the soap opera legend’s devoted spouse; they also collaborated closely, and Huber served as her career manager while also pursuing his own passion: cooking.
Huber watched out for his wife in a variety of ways. Lucci was feeling chest trouble in 2019 but opted to overlook it. She was preoccupied with her profession and thought she had little time to devote to the ‘nuisance’.
“I feel very fortunate, too, because Helmut is so comfortable, and I always turn to him because he’s so wise,” Lucci said of her husband. “I’m not even going to say supportive because it goes so much beyond that. It’s involved, hands-on, and completely dedicated to me.”
Her loving spouse was the one who urged her to get things looked at. Only then Lucci realized her heart was in danger, and her doctor promptly scheduled her for heart surgery.
That gesture is credited with saving her life, and Lucci recovered completely. Lucci and Huber both had reasonably excellent health in their latter years, and at 75, Lucci looks better than ever!
Huber passed away painlessly in 2022. He died in Long Island, New York, at the age of 84, leaving behind his lovely wife, their two daughters, two children from a previous marriage, and grandkids.
Unsurprisingly, after spending so much time together, Huber’s death brought Lucci almost terrible pain and desolation. She has said that she is very sad about her long-term partner’s death and asked that the public not talk about it. The family hailed Huber as a “family man” and a “true friend.”
At their magnificent 10,622-square-foot house in Quogue, Lucci and Huber built many beautiful memories. The custom-made $20 million property, completed in 1989 by architect Eugene Futterman, lies on 1.4 acres with an ocean outlook.
The beautiful house was built in the area’s traditional Shingle Style, but it also has some very unique features.
The home has a big hexagonal tower as well as various porches and terraces that open out to the breathtaking coastal vista.
The soap opera diva provided a tour of her bright and magical 7-bedroom, 7-bath house on Open House TV.
Because of all the natural light streaming in through the exposed double-height windows, the house is exceptionally bright.
“We didn’t want anything on the windows,” Lucci explained. “We didn’t want to do anything that would detract from the breathtaking vista.”
The beautiful dressing room faces the swimming pool outdoors and is really wide and light.
With its center-pleat drapes, the principal and heavenly bedroom offers a breathtaking ocean view.
Yet one feature sticks out: the absolutely lovely ceiling, from which a gigantic chandelier hangs.
This magnificent ceiling design was, in reality, a surprise from Huber.
While Lucci was at work, her husband hired an artist to paint the ceiling in soft colors that reminded him of the cool sky.
“I went away to film a TV movie, and when I returned, Helmut had an artist come in and paint all of that on the ceiling,” Lucci explained. “He literally stole my breath away.”
Huber’s love and commitment were on display once again with the magnificent surprise.
Additionally, Lucci’s house has a sizable dining room with a vintage Nordic-inspired checkered green and white marble floor.
The enormous dining area can accommodate a large gathering, and large glass patio doors open up to offer an amazing indoor/outdoor living ambiance.
A library with an animal-print floor design, a circular sofa, towering bookcases, and a fireplace complete the grandiose yet comfortable and rather odd residence.
“We wanted a room so that when we did come out here in the winter, it would feel nice,” Lucci explained. “Maybe we might light a fire in the fireplace.”

What a wonderful life it must be to share such a gorgeous house with only one companion!
While the magnificent estate has apparently been sold, it will certainly always provide Lucci with pleasant memories of her time with Huber.
