Instead of chasing fame, “Thorn Birds” author Rachel Ward focused on her now-39-year marriage to her husband, Bryan Brown, and their growing family

Rachel Ward was considered one of the world’s ten most attractive women around the time she met Bryan Brown. She was a rising celebrity, having been on the cover of UK Vogue and nominated for a Golden Globe.

Everyone was smitten with the stunning actress, including her “The Thorn Birds” co-star Richard Chamberlain. Speaking of their time on set, he stated that all of the love scenes were enjoyable to film because of his stunning co-star. However, while he was falling for her, she was falling for someone else.

Ward was growing in love with Brown at the time, according to Chamberlain, which meant she was full of romance but not for him. Despite this, Chamberlain stated that Ward’s enthusiasm was contagious, owing to their roles as two people in love.

In fact, he asserted that it wasn’t difficult to think that Ward was in love with him and no one else. “I assumed it was me! It was fantastic. “She’s really into me,” he must have thought.

From Ward’s perspective, there was something about Brown that drew her in. “He had great pecs.” I mean, it’s kind of chemical, isn’t it? It’s so simple, She talked about how she initially fell in love. The fact was that there was no reason for her feelings—she liked him, and that was that.

Meanwhile, Brown’s first impression of Ward was that he was “not a terrible type.” Despite his immediate attraction, it took a while for him to show her evidence of his interest. Ward didn’t mind since Brown believes it was a task she was ready to undertake until he ultimately grew up.

Ward had made up his mind about him, and it was a no-brainer: the then 35-year-old ladies’ man, who frankly was merely a guy terrified of commitment, was done playing games. It was now time for him to settle down with the stunning Rachel Ward.

Brown had never envisioned marrying after coming from a damaged home, yet he and Ward married within nine months. He used to tell his mother that he’d never marry until Ward came along and changed his mind.

While many people marry after finding they have everything they could possibly desire and need in their partner, Ward and Brown married under quite different circumstances. Brown was in London at the time to film with Paul McCartney. Ward arrived and got into a heated confrontation.

“I simply figured if we’re going to bicker like that, we may as well get married,” Brown explained. That year, they married in Ward’s boyhood home in Oxfordshire. They later moved to Sydney and reared their three children, Rose, Matilda, and James.

Before “The Thorn Birds,” Ward featured in several hits. While her miniseries with Chamberlain was popular in 1983, her acting was highly criticized, eventually forcing her to stop performing. When asked how it affected her, she stated,

“When I was slain, I took it very seriously.” “After that, I never recovered my confidence.”

Despite the fact that “The Thorn Birds” had an impact on Ward’s career, it ultimately brought her to the love of her life. Brown once requested that Ward show him her hand while they were waiting for a take. He decided to read her palm and predicted that she would have three children based on the three lines in her hand. They had no idea they’d wind up having three children together.

Ward continued to perform, albeit only on rare occasions. Instead, she relocated to her husband’s native Australia, where she preferred to concentrate on raising her family.

When asked what advice he has for others on how to make a marriage last, Brown says it’s to be patient. “Say yes to your wife all the time, and if something goes wrong, blame yourself.” “Men would be happy if they realized this.”

The charming couple has three children, all of whom are following in their footsteps: Matilda, their 1987 daughter, is most known for her work on “Lessons from the Grave,” “How God Works,” and “Let’s Talk About.” Their only son Joe is well-known for his roles in “Let’s Talk About It” and “Rake,” while their daughter Rosie is well-known for her roles in “Black Mirror,” “Inside No. 9,” and “Gangs of London.”

Ward directed the family-friendly film “Palm Beach,” in which Brown co-starred with his daughter Matilda. It is the most recent endeavor completed by the family.

Ward and Brown became grandparents for the first time in 2019 when their daughter Matilda gave birth to her first son, Zan Neathway Gooding. Brown stayed at her daughter’s side, eager to eventually hold his grandchild in his arms.

Despite being a devoted grandfather, the actor was conflicted about being addressed as “grandfather,” as if revealing his age. Whether he liked it or not, he recognized that he would always be referred to as “grandpa.”

Brown was initially concerned about being a grandfather since many people predicted how much he would like it. He wanted to find things out on his own, and he ultimately did: his grandchild arrived, and he wanted to be around the tiny kid all the time.

Matilda married her spouse, Scott Gooding, after welcoming her child, formally making her a stepmother to his adolescent son. They were intended to marry on Brown and Ward’s farm in New South Wales, but a roaring blaze forced them to abandon their plans.

As bushfires threatened to destroy their home, the family was forced to flee. Matilda opted to marry in Sydney instead of at home because, while she and her parents would have preferred to marry at home, they wanted to assure everyone’s safety.

Gooding’s kid played an important role in the wedding. Throughout the ceremony, he stood behind his father with a broad smile on his face. The setting couldn’t be more perfect for the renowned chef, who described the wedding as “probably the happiest moment” of his life.

Matilda is now a happy mother of two, and their eldest son cheerfully looks after his smaller siblings. Gooding shared a cute shot of his kid pulling his smaller siblings’ stroller while out on a walk.

Ward and Brown attempt to spend as much time as possible with their grandkids, just like they do with their children. The adoring grandparents document their grandparenting on Instagram, where they enjoy a variety of activities together.

Ward is gardening with her eldest grandson Zan in this wonderful video. They may be seen spreading sugar cane mulch around their herb garden. Gooding is happy to say that his mother-in-law “nurtures” her grandkids in the same manner that she attempts to nourish the environment.

When Zan and his grandmother, whom he refers to as “mopie,” are not in the garden, they spend time on their farm with the horses. They even spent one Christmas at their family farm, where the adoring grandma exposed her first grandchild to the animals at a young age to familiarize him with them.

Ward made an effort to spend equal time with her second grandson, Anouk, after his birth. Ward was caught enjoying a stroll with her second grandchild and daughter Matilda one day, with Gooding capturing the tender moment.

Cameron, an Australian regenerative farmer, shares Ward’s passion for regenerative farming. He blended immediately in with the rest of the Brown family, making it simple for them all to get along and share their interests.

Ward and Brown have done an excellent job raising their family. Even though their children are all grown up, they stay close and spend as much time as they can with their in-laws. The Browns, Goodings, and Camerons were one happy family enjoying Christmas together in 2021.

Ward claims that if she had married an American and lived in Hollywood, she would have had a third spouse by that point in her life.

Ward and Brown are in a happy marriage, with their children all grown up and enjoying their own lives. Despite her 39-year marriage, Ward reveals that she feels there is more to life than her marriage and her family life. She stated:

“My marriage and family are vital to me, but they are not the end-all and be-all.” “I enjoy acting and intend to pursue it as a profession.”

Despite residing in Australia for many years, Ward has all the contacts she needs to remain active in Hollywood. In reality, she’s been making the trek to Hollywood whenever she needs to for years.

While it may have been more convenient for her to live in America for her profession, Ward claims that if she had married an American and lived in Hollywood, she would have been on her third marriage by that point.

Instead, she’s in a long-term relationship with the love of her life, and she’s free to do anything she wants with her house and family. Her children are frequently proud to reveal what the actress does when she is not working on a movie.

Mom’s daughter Rosie once showed her elevating a glass during a multi-day home painting project, as well as the ladder she used to complete her task. Ward’s pleased daughter wanted to demonstrate what a fantastic mom Ward was, and her Instagram followers agreed.

Ward shares her sense of humor on Instagram, in addition to her talents and wonderful moments with family. She cleared the air about what she had been up to in the middle of the COVID-19 outbreak.

She said that she hadn’t gone to the United States in over five years, that she didn’t have a personal trainer, that she’d been at the mid-north shore for the last ten days, and that she didn’t have COVID-19. “Pick on another witch,” she concluded her amusing remark.
