Sophia Loren entered the Miss Italy beauty competition in 1950 when she was just 15 years old. Since then, the actress has left her imprint on the globe, and at 88 years old, she is still regarded as a legend.

Her oldest grandchild, now 16, has grown up in the world of filmmaking and performing.

Sophia Loren values her family tremendously. “I live for my family,” she remarked in a 2016 interview with Al Roker on Today. My grandchildren are the most lovely people I’ve ever seen. I’m overjoyed! “I have a fantastic life.”

Lucia, her eldest grandchild, was born on May 12, 2006. The adolescent will turn 17 this summer. She was born in Geneva, Switzerland, outside of her native Italy.

Sophia has two sons, Carlo Ponti Jr., and Edoardo Ponti. Her children were born to her longtime spouse, Carlo Ponti Sr.; Ponti Sr. married her in 1966, and they were married until his death in 2007.

Her children chose careers that were similar to their mother’s. Edoardo, her son, is a director who married Sasha Alexander, an American actress. Alexander has appeared in several shows, including Rizzoli & Isles.

Sasha frequently shares photos of her children, Lucia and Leonardo, on Instagram. She writes about how quickly the children are growing up.

On her account, the actress also brags about her kids and often sends them sweet messages. When her daughter Lucia turned 15, she shared a touching photo of the mother and daughter combo with the comment, “Happy Birthday to our Lucia! 15 today! She is taller than me, more organized, a thinker, a dancer, and a really hilarious person. What a trying year for all children, but I must say that I learned a lot from Lucia and how she joyfully navigated through it all. Congratulations, our love! Keep up the good work, and never stop calling me “girly pop.”
