Ed Sheeran said that certain “turbulent things” that occurred in his personal life prompted him to rein in his social media presence.

After keeping a low profile on Instagram for the last two months, the music star behind “Bad Habits” made his triumphant comeback on the site on Tuesday.

The musician, who is 31 years old and has 42 million followers, recently admitted to his audience that he has “not been that active in my social media or my fan base online over the previous couple of years.”

Even while it’s nothing out of the ordinary for the singer of “Perfect” to take a break from social media every once in a while, he did confess that there was more going on behind the scenes of his most recent absence from the site.

“The reason I’m making this video is, just being totally honest, I’ve had some turbulent things going on in my personal life so I just didn’t really feel like being online and pretending to be something I’m not when I wasn’t feeling like that,” Sheeran told his fans. “And I am aware that this may seem strange.”

The singer, who is scheduled to begin his tour of the United States in May, chose not to elaborate on the struggles he had to overcome out of the public light but did indicate that things are “looking good” for the first time in a long time.

He joked that “weird stuff is going to start getting uploaded” and added that he is now officially “back online.”

In recent months, Sheeran’s personal life has been rocked by a series of significant events, the most recent of which being the birth of the singer’s second kid.

The musician made the happy announcement in May 2022 that he and his wife, Cherry Seaborn, had become parents to a girl named Jupiter.

“I just wanted to let you all know that we have been blessed with yet another lovely baby girl. He had written such words on Instagram at the time. “We are both so in love with her, and over the moon to be a family of 4 x,” he said.

2015 marked the beginning of Sheeran and Seaborn’s relationship, which culminated in their wedding vows being exchanged in January of 2019. The romance between the two began while they were still in high school.
