Danelle Ballengee, a world champion adventure racer, struggled to survive for three days and two nights after falling down a Utah canyon and fracturing her pelvis. The endurance athlete and four-time Pikes Peak Marathon champion had fallen 60 feet to the canyon bottom after slipping on an ice patch of ground while struggling up a rough portion of the path.

Unable to move and alone in a 1,000-square-mile wilderness, her sole hope for rescue rested with her dog Tasman (Taz). Ballengee relates her tragic survival story, which kept me on the edge of my seat.
